The first steps into your advanced riding

Many riders don’t consider taking advanced training. Often, it’s due to the cost—especially after investing in all the gear needed to ride—or because it feels like giving up valuable time, particularly when juggling work, family, and other responsibilities. It can be easy to put ourselves last on the priority list.

However, additional training is essential for every rider. We all know that riding can be thrilling, but it also carries risks. You’ve probably heard someone mention that a person they know was injured or killed on a motorcycle. While you’re likely aware of the dangers, it’s normal not to dwell on them or think they could happen to you.

But isn’t it better to reduce that risk? Wouldn’t you rather become a safer, more skilled rider—one who feels at ease on their own bike, knows the right speed for every bend, understands when it’s safe to overtake, and can manoeuvre their motorcycle with confidence, even in tight spaces?

At Women Only Motorcycle Training, we aim to make every stage of your training enjoyable. Laura understands the challenges riders face and knows from experience that without further training, riding can sometimes feel stressful and even frightening. Whether you’ve been riding for 25 years or just 25 minutes, everyone can benefit from advanced training. Explore our advanced motorcycle training options below.

Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS)

The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) was developed by the DVSA to bridge the gap between passing your standard motorcycle test and pursuing an advanced motorcycle test, such as those offered by the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) or RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents).

ERS training is a minimum of three days with your instructor. There’s no formal test, which is ideal for those who may feel anxious under exam conditions. Upon completing the ERS, you’ll receive a certificate that many insurance companies recognize as an additional qualification—often resulting in up to a 10% discount on your insurance premium.

IAM / RoSPA Advanced Tests

You may already be familiar with the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) and RoSPA (RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders). Both organisations offer advanced riding tests that are widely recognized. Passing an advanced motorcycle test with either of these organisations means you’ll be in the top 10% of riders in the country. At WOMT, we provide tailored preparation for either test to help you achieve the best possible results.
